ARCH OF TITUS

"It was erected in A.D. 81, to record the conquest and fall of Jerusalem. Its chief interest is that shows a clear consecutive picture of a known historical event-the Triumph of Titus after his return from the siege of Jerusalem, the most terrible siege in history, and on the south side within the arch are shown Jewish captives in his train carrying trophies from the Temple, notably the seven-branched candlestick, the trumpets and the tables used for the shewbread."
(A Handbook to Rome and Its Environs, 1923)
